Expressions

On line Course

I have been dreaming a long time about designing this course, it’s all about how I like to paint and create. It always starts with an idea that wants to come to life on a canvas. It can be a certain look on a face, a hand might be positioned just this way, the hair that drapes the face and spills into the background.

This course has three parts that can be purchased separately and work on their own, or can be purchased as a complete package.

Part one – Expressive faces

– we will start with sketches to play with a proportion of a face in different positions, different looks and eye expressions. Then we will paint a face in with a simple palate choosing only three colors, which include black and white, to learn how the tone creates shape and correct proportions of a face. Next we will choose another face to learn how to create an extensive pallet of choosing only 5 or 6 colors. We will also learn how to use color theory to create vibrant lifelike composition of a face that has depth.

Part two – Expressive hands

– In a similar fashion with which we created faces, we will learn how to build a lifelike hand with sketches and paint. First we start with making an extensive vocabulary of hand positions to become familiar with a movement of a hand. Then we will choose couple different hand positions. Painting a hand is much like painting a face, you will learn how to build layers of color to create depth and vibrancy of a hand.

Part three – Express everything

and in this part we will put it all together, first start will a playful background and create some layers to see if it will spark an idea or a story we want to tell, we can also use journalling and certain prompts, or look at pictures for inspiration. We will use the idea or a story to build a composition of a face with a hand or what ever else might need to be included. We will learn how to create a whole painting using color, composition and background together to tell our story.

My New Year’s Resolution Page – my gift to you

IMG_0840First – Creating our sacred space

I wanted to do something special for New Years. I really want this coming year start of right, even if the excitement inevitably dwindles down as fast as tears before, it might still be very well remembered. I am not very good at sticking with the program, but I realize it, and maybe seeing it will help me change, and this coming year I have decided that I am not going let disappointments and small set backs drag me down anymore. After all, just because something does not fly, it does not mean it was a bad idea, it might just need few adjustments.  If I thought of it, it must be worth something – hmm, that’s the spirit.

And so, every page starts with a little preparation, but a New Year’s Page deserves a little more attention.

I started at least a week ahead, actually, the idea was brewing for some time. I thought, what is it really that I want to change? I was getting little ideas floating around in my head, but the time when I can see more clearly is when I meditate. I have space in my studio that is set up  for that reason. Any time I need to quiet my mind, I just sit on my cushion and try to be still and take few deep breath to just quiet my mind. It’s really amazing what happens. Underneath all that noise and clutter, the clearer intentions and visions arise.

For your quiet space, you can just use a cushion, candle and maybe few flowers or whatever inspires you. You might also take a notebook and pen with you for to jot down any ideas that arise. I find that if I forget to do that, later on they don’t seam to be so clear or I forget them altogether. Ones you settle into your comfortable seated position, take few deep breath and try to relax. Let your body and mind settle in and just bring your awareness to you breath.

The first part of our meditation is Gratitude – think about all the things that are already present in your life that you are grateful for. You can make a small mental list. No need to rush this, take your time.

Then think of all the love that is already present in your life, feel it right around your heart. For some of us it might not seams so real, but if you can just imagine what it would feel like is enough. Imagine your self being filled with Love.

The Third Step is to share that Love –  imagine sharing that love with everyone around you. Be a giver of love.

And the last step is visualizing the things that you want happening or manifesting right at this moment. What ever you would like to happen or whatever you would love to have, your heart’s desire, imagine what it would feel like to have it, right now, not in the future.

After this short meditation, bring your attention to your breath again, and sit with this experience for a moment or two, then write down in your notebook anything you need to share from this for your journal page.

Now it’s time to create our journal page.

You will need your journal. any size, hopefully with at least a 60lbs paper, for mixed media.

Pencil, araser

watercolors, inks or acrylics, gesso

brushes, water, paper towels

stencils, stamps

any pictures that you would like to add to the page

your favorite writing or inspiration page

black and white pen for doodles at the end, they could also be colored pens

your notebook for ideas to write in your journal.

Now watch my videos.

The first part and the most important one for our page is to set our intention for next year. With your pencil, designate spaces of any shape and size on your page, give them headings that represent the things that are important in your life. Then use your notebook with your ideas from the meditation in it to write your intentions down. It can also include things that you would like to change, that no longer serve you.

The videos are only meant for inspiration, you don’t have to follow them closely. Your page does not have to be finished in one day. I am always amazed how much I change my page in the process of creating it. Your journal is for you to create and play with your ideas. It is not meant to be perfect, it is for you to see and get inspiration from. You can use it for future reference or add to it any time you like. I still have pages from previous years that inspire me to change them or add to them, and they also help me see the progress I made.

Have a wondrous New Year.

The Big Stir

There is this idea floating around in my head that says, live your life in a question. I have heard this phrase many times, in a yoga class, or reading something about how to live our life. I always wondered about it. It means that we should not search for the answers, we let the question dissolve into our daily routine. Maybe we just ask for something, and then we let it be. When we are ready, it will come to us.

But I also took that meaning to impact how I create. I know that sometimes I have an idea in my head and then I try to follow it to a T, but when I let it loosely just flow in my mind, I do not take any particular direction, sometimes, something beautiful and unexpected unfolds, sometimes, I can surprise myself. And that is what I call painting in a question. But even that, that meaning could be a little disorienting, because just the word question would almost demand an answer, it’s a really tricky place to reside in.

And the other day I had a premonition. What if it was not a question, but faith. What if it was much more subtle than that, and I let all my expectation just dissolve into a loving heart of believing that everything will just turn out ok, if I step into whatever I do wholeheartedly, and patiently, instead of rushing for the outcome? With prayer, maybe down on my knees, it does not mean that I give up all my will, but I let go of all my barriers to live and create. And That is not easy for me.

My New Year’s Resolution Page

New Years Day is just around the corner. I always feel it’s approaching with a sense of excitement, and a call for celebration. Unlike Birthdays that have become a less welcome landmark, New Year is an opportunity for starting something new, clearing my space and making a resolution with a hope for great things to come.

Here is my Video I did for my New Years resolution page. If you sign up to follow my blog, you will get a notification on how I created this whole page on December 31st, including the meditation and steps I took to get me there. EnJoy, and Happy New Year. 🙂

Life Book 2016 Blog&Hop Winner

Hello all,

I have been busy traveling lately, I needed to get away and see different sights, and I have desided to go to Savannah Georia. It is beautiful here, but raining. And so it seams that we don’t always draw a lucky hand when we pick something. I remember when I went away on vacations and the weather turned out to be beautiful, how fortunate I felt. But this time I knew something was amiss. It started by missing my plane, and now the storms, and the hurricane is on the way and it will hit just about when I am supose to be flying back. But I travel, because I love adventure, and so I got it. Just like with everything, I try to appretiate no matter what life sends my way.

And now for the winner, it’s Cody Doll – conrgatulatons Cody, and I hope you have a wonderful year with Life Book creating.

My New Class starting next Week

I have been working on this one for a while. I always like to experiment with different things and I love working with patterns and stamps very much. One day I found this book in the Anthropology store that I fell in love with, and an idea just struck me. I will recreate this in my own way. And because I am frequently asked to record how I create, I decided to record the process. Of course I had to include how I paint a portrait and also how I create a background and working with a figure. Every time I create something new in a different way, it will inspire me to do deferent things. That is how it always worked for me. I hope this workshop will inspire you as much as it inspired me.
